My new webcomic in the Vilage Voice: Liberty

Those of you who know me (and a very few others) know I've been drawing comix on and off since the puberty years. I just started a new strip, called "Liberty," on the Village Voice website. It'll be a weekly (we're not sure what day yet, so stay tuned).

Below is the first panel of the first strip:

(thanks for the hook-up, Mike!)

UPDATE: There's a bit of a political struggle at the Voice site over whether this strip will continue to run. How very exciting. Either way, I'll let you know.

In this age of configurability, I'm always amazed when I can't instantly locate what I'm looking for online. Today, it's a freeware JPG-ASCII converter, so I can make a cool graphic to replace the scary banner on top of my blog. Any suggestions? Remember, I'm running Mac OS X now...

UPDATE: found one! it's called JavE, and it works great.

New Contributor: Steve Rafferty

I'd like to announce something exciting -- a new contributor will be joining Aram Squalls. His name is Steve Rafferty, and he's also working on a doctorate at USC Annenberg. He shares my academic and personal interest in music, and has even sat in as a de facto (meaning unpaid, unfortunately...) TA in the class I teach, Music as Communication.

Steve will be posting his own brilliant notes, quotes and anecdotes to these pages in the coming months, so keep your eyes peeled...
